At the beginning of the Victorian Era, the girl’s education is essentially for marriage preparation. Women have talents like embroidery to allow them to adorn their husband’s house. Women trade’s are limited to teachers or housekeeping.
In the Victorian Era, it is believed that medecine is reserved to men. Women remain in their role of nurse.
Florence Nightingale, (1820-1910) is an important figure in the 19th century. She modernized the traditional image of nurse. She wished to sacrifice herself to ensure the well-being of her patients. She worked for the education of women, she taught them bravery, self confidence and self affirmation.
She was also important in the feminist movement. She fought for the abolition of prostitution. Finally she fought against the desires of her family in order not to marry an upper class man.
