The end of the story

Three months after her brother, Emily died on the 19th December 1848 from tuberculosis aged 30.

A few months later, Anne was also ill from tuberculosis and went to Scarborough (in the East of Yorkshire) an attempt that sea air might cure her. She died the 28th May 1849 aged 29.

Charlotte continued to write and published Shirley (1849) and Villette (1853).

In 1854, she married with Arthur Bell Nichols, her father curate. The same year, she began but did not finish one of its last novels: Emma.

On 31st March 1855 aged 38, she died of a miscarriage. This novel The Professor is published posthumously in 1857.

The Brontë Sisters have marked The Victorian Period.

The father, Patrick Brontë continued to live at the parsonage, and died there on 7th June 1861 aged 84.
