In the Victorian society, prostitution was considered as a hazard for women who lost their way, because they had broken the law about women and sexuality , their mind became «impure». The fact of being «impure» constituted a sufficient reason for the man to apply for divorce. In such case, the women had to become prostitutes to survive. However, it was allowed for a man to visit a prostitute.
