A quote by Charles Dickens
This is a quote by Charles Dickens in one of his best-known novels: Great Expectations. This quote expresses his hard childhood: his father’s imprisonment because of debts, his experience in the workhouse, his mother’s betrayal... For long time, it was obsessional and he was withdrawn. But he understood that he had to act to change the world and he decided to talk about everything in his books. He learned from this experience and it made him stronger. He denounced what mattered to him and in doing that he got himself back on track.
Charles Dickens wanted to pass a message: if something bad happens in your life, you have to share your experience in order to maybe help others.
"Suffering has been stronger than all other teaching, and has taught me to understand what your heart used to be. I have been bent and broken, but – I hope – into a better shape." Charles Dickens
