The Canterville Ghost
The Canterville ghost is a fantastic and realistic novel, written in 1887. It’s a story about an American family who move to a haunted castle in Canterville. The family is composed of a father, who is an American minister, twins (their nicknames are «stars and stripes») who make a lot of practical jokes, a young boy «Washington» (he erases a bloodstain with detergent but it reappears every morning in the library), and a girl «Virginia». The family doesn’t want to believe that there is a ghost, whose name is Sir Simon (in the story), in this castle and they aren’t scared by ghosts. Thus, they organize a lot of plans in order to frighten Sir Simon. It's not a ghost like the others because he has human features. On the one hand, it’s a gothic story but on the other hand, the Canterville ghost is a ghost which makes readers laugh.
