The Lady of the house
The role of the lady of the house in the Victorian era was described in 1861 by Isabella Beeton, in a famous book of household management. In this publication, she explained that a lady can be compared with an officer or a company head to ensure her husband's happiness and well-being.
She had to accomplish her duties with cleverness and meticulouness. In this way she organized the chores and she delegated them to her servants. She had to be able to educate her children.
Women are expected to organize diner and receptions to contribute to their husbands' good reputation.
