London in the 19th century
At this time, London was the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, it was the most powerful city of the world. Technology, modernity and wealth came in the city with the accumulation of the industries. So the poor farmers of the surroundings of London saw an opportunity to get out of poverty. But the English farmers were not the only to have this idea, because a lot of European people decided to go to Great Britain, because of the constant creation of jobs, and of wealth. So, a lot of population arrived in London, it created an overpopulation, and the inhabitants were forced to live in crowded houses. Also, generally, they were poor, and they couldn’t live in well-kept houses. The conditions of living were dirty. Because of that, there were lots of diseases.
