The Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood
In 1848, seven artists (William Holman Hunt ; John Everett Millais ; Dante Gabriel Rossetti ; William Michael Rossetti ; James Collinson ; Frederic George Stephens ; Thomas Woolner) founded a brotherhood whose goal was to create a naturalistic style of art which broke the rules and the conventions of the time and to imitate the famous artist Raphael, the artist they admired and who was for them the painter who achieved the highest degree of perfection. Their paintings are colorful with many symbols and literary references.
